I can attest through experience that thyme tea benefits for tonsillitis are real.

The coincidence made it that my tonsils were swollen and very painful two weeks ago, and I wanted some thyme to perfume this vegetable stir fry recipe. So I bought a huge bundle of fresh thyme!

I didn't know what to do with all that thyme, so I started drinking it with ginger and garlic, that I was already adding into my anti-inflammation tea to fight the virus responsible for my tonsillitis.

The next day when I woke up, I felt my tonsils were less chocking me

than the previous day. So I made the thyme tea the whole day. 

By the evening the tonsillitis was no longer there, I could finally eat well but above all, I could speak properly.

It's then that it hit me, my condition quickly improved after adding thyme in my anti-inflammatory tea!

I then Googled for thyme tea health benefits.

Thyme has a variety of health benefits, and it's applied in different fields where health is concerned. 

Thyme is used in suppressing cough, it soothes a sore throat, used to heal acute bronchitis, and it's used for tonsillitis.

Since it's high in antioxidants, thyme will help you in reducing free radicals that are responsible for many diseases.

It is good in lowering high blood pleasure, it will boost your immune system, thyme oil is used to disinfect, to get rid of pests, and it is also used as perfume.

Thyme has anti-viral properties, if taken regularly it will help fight virus infections. It's an anti-inflammatory medicinal herb that is commonly used to relieve rheumatoid arthritis.

Thyme is also used to get rid of some intestinal hookworms and roundworms. 

This herb can help in maintaining a healthy urinary tract. It's also used for headaches, to stimulate memory, among others.

To sum up, thyme has antimicrobial, antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties.

How to make my thyme tea homemade remedy

While you can enjoy just hot thyme water, you'll love it when you add other ingredients to enhance the flavor and healing power.

In my thyme tea, I use fresh thyme, fresh ginger, fresh mint, and fresh garlic.

All these plants have healing, anti-inflammatory properties that will help your body fight pain, cold and tonsillitis.

Caution, don't boil the fresh herbs, for optimum thyme tea benefits on tonsillitis!

Boil ginger, then add the herbs and garlic at the end.

How to store fresh thyme

As with other fresh herbs, I wrap my thyme with a kraft paper then slide them in freezer bags and store in the fridge where they can be preserved up to 5 days.

Thyme tea is a good homemade remedy for tonsillitis. Drink this tea when you are coughing or as an anti-inflammatory home remedy.

Equipment

  • A small pan

Ingredients

  • 1 piece of fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 branches of fresh mint
  • 5 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 glass of water

Instructions

  • Cut ginger into small chunks, put them in a pan then add the water
  • Cover the pan and bring ginger to boil for 5 mins
  • In the meanwhile, run tap water on the herbs
  • Dice the cloves of garlic
  • Cut off the heat after 5 mins and add the diced garlic together with the herbs
  • Let the thyme tea steep for about 8 mins
  • Enjoy your thyme tea with some honey if you wish to.
