Looking for a healthy and unique treat to impress your guests during the holidays? Look no further; I've created this delicious and nourishing beet hot chocolate recipe just for you! This vegan hot chocolate is tasty and provides many health benefits. It has nutritious ingredients like beets, dates, fresh ginger, silken tofu, and dark chocolate.

Hi, lovely. Are you looking to add a new twist to your classic hot chocolate? Try this beetroot hot chocolate. This beverage is a delicious and unique alternative to the traditional hot chocolate.

The earthy and sweet taste of the beets perfectly balances out the bitterness of the dark chocolate, making this beverage suitable for holidays.

The beetroot in this recipe adds a slightly earthy and sweet taste that perfectly complements the bitter dark chocolate.

What I love about this recipe is that it's very simple to make and loaded with healthy nutrients.

Made with nutritious ingredients and sweetened with whole fruits, this beet vegan hot chocolate drink is not only delicious but also nourishing, making it an excellent choice for a cozy and healthy treat any time of the year.

What you'll need to make this hot chocolate

This hot chocolate recipe necessitates ingredients that you could already have in your pantry. You'll need:

  • Cooked beets
  • Dates
  • Fresh ginger root (you can use grounded)
  • Silken tofu
  • Raw cacao (different from cocoa)
  • Dark chocolate (80% and above)
  • Some cinnamon powder
  • Some grounded nutmeg
  • Hot water or milk (or beets' cooking water)

You can substitute silken tofu with milk of your choice, but the beverage will not be as creamy. You can also use heavy cream, but remember it's high in calories.

For nutmeg, I like using freshly grounded. Buy a whole nutmeg and grate the amount you need. This way, you'll always have a fresh aroma.

Health benefits of beet chocolate

Beet chocolate, made with nutritious ingredients like beets, dark chocolate, dates, fresh ginger, silken tofu, and cacao, provides many health benefits;

  • Beets are a great source of fiber, folate, and potassium, which are essential for maintaining a healthy heart and reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Beets are also rich in betalain, which are antioxidants and anti-inflammatory.
  • Dark chocolate is rich in magnesium and antioxidants. Magnesium is essential for the formation of bones, DNA, and glutathione (the body's natural antioxidant).
  • Dates are rich in vitamins and minerals, boosting energy levels and improving digestion.
  • Fresh ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and it has been shown to ease nausea and improve gastrointestinal issues.
  • Silken tofu is an excellent protein source, containing all essential amino acids.
  • Cacao is rich in flavonoids that help to reduce the risk of heart disease. It's also rich in minerals like magnesium, copper, potassium, and calcium.
  • Baobab is rich in vitamin C, which will help absorb iron from cacao, chocolate, and tofu.
  • Cinnamon is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, and anticancer. It also supports heart health.
  • Nutmeg is an antioxidant and antimicrobial spice that will add flavor to your hot chocolate.

How to make this beet chocolate

First, assemble your ingredients. Remove the silken tofu from the fridge about 30 minutes before.

  • Boil the beets and keep their water. (You can buy already cooked beets).
  • Heat some water or milk if not using the beet's cooking water.
  • Chop ginger and turmeric.
  • Remove the pits of dates.
  • Put all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend till smooth.
  • Pour in a mug and sprinkle with some chocolate chips, cinnamon or nutmeg.

Take my word for it: this hot chocolate is delicious and unique. It's a healthy twist on traditional hot chocolate. Moreover, it's simple to make with ingredients you could already have in your pantry.

Want some extra deliciousness? Add some peanut or almond butter to your hot chocolate!

This beverage is a great way to impress your guests or warm you up during cold winter days. Why not try it and enjoy the goodness of nutritious ingredients in a single cup?

You've got the power to heal yourself, Githu.

Equipment

  • Chopping board
  • kitchen knife
  • small pot/saucepan
  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 medium beet
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 Medjool dates
  • a small piece of fresh ginger
  • 1 cup silken tofu
  • 1 tablespoon baobab powder
  • ½ or 1 tablespoon raw cacao
  • 3 oz dark chocolate or squares
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • some freshly grated nutmeg
  • a small pinch of sea or Himalayas salt

Instructions

  • Clean and dice the beet (it's not necessary to peel if it's a new harvest).
  • Put the diced beet in a pot and add water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 mins.
  • Chop finely or grate the ginger.
  • Prepare the dates by removing the seeds/pits.
  • Once the beets are cooked, remove them from the heat and let them cool. Use the beets with their cooking water. Do not use all the water at once!
  • Put all the ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend till smooth.
  • Taste for seasoning and serve in mugs.
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, or chocolate chips.

Notes

  • You can use already-cooked beets or store-bought beets; in this case, add hot water to the blender.
  • You can use hot milk instead of water. Start with one cup, then add gradually as you blend till the chocolate is smooth and thick.
  • Baobab can be found in organic or African groceries.
