Reduce Inflammation with This Berry Smoothie

By Githu: Nutrition Coach

↓ Jump to Recipe

This berry smoothie recipe with greens is a healthy and healing meal that supports your digestion, cardiovascular and eye health, and helps reduce inflammation.

I've been drinking a smoothie every single day since December 2024, except on days when I'm traveling or deep in the mountains. It has become a non-negotiable part of my routine. I can personally attest to the positive impact it has had on my digestion and overall health.

Why? Because smoothies help me digest better, feel lighter, and most importantly, they help keep inflammation at bay. When you find a blend of ingredients that truly supports your body, the difference is undeniable.

This smoothie is one of those blends. It's crafted with high-nutrient, anti-inflammatory ingredients that work together to help you:

  • Calm inflammation
  • Support digestion
  • Nourish skin from within
  • Help the cells to repair

Unlike most berry smoothies on the internet that contain mostly fruit and some with added sugar, this berry smoothie includes greens, cloves, ginger, and turmeric to maximize its health benefits.

Let's explore what makes this smoothie a daily ritual for healing.

Smoothie Ingredients

🟡 Turmeric + Ginger Root
These roots are the stars of natural anti-inflammatory healing. Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound that helps reduce pain, swelling, and oxidative stress. Ginger is a natural digestive aid; it calms the stomach, supports bile flow, and improves gut motility.
💡 Important: Curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own; adding black pepper (which contains piperine) boosts its absorption by up to 2000%.
⚫ Black Pepper
Just a pinch activates turmeric's healing potential; without it, most of the curcumin would pass through unused.
🥒 Cucumber
Cooling, hydrating, and cleansing, cucumbers support kidney function and gut motility, while gently flushing out excess water retention. Its high water content keeps the smoothie light and easy to digest while helping you stay hydrated at the cellular level.
🥕 Carrots
Naturally sweet and rich in beta-carotene, carrots support eye health, skin regeneration, and a strong immune system. They also add soluble fiber that feeds the gut microbiome.
🌱 Arugula + Baby Spinach
These leafy greens are cleansing, rich in minerals, and easy to digest. Arugula brings a peppery kick and supports liver detoxification, while spinach provides iron, magnesium, and antioxidants like lutein, which support eye health.
🍦 Plain Yogurt with Probiotics
A healthy gut is the foundation of excellent health. Probiotic-rich yogurt helps restore microbial balance, strengthen the immune system, and reduce gut-related inflammation. Choose a dairy-free yogurt with live cultures if you are avoiding dairy.
🍑 Frozen Mango
Creamy, naturally sweet, and rich in vitamin C, mango adds a tropical taste and supports collagen production. It's great for your skin, joints, and immune system.
🫐 Frozen Wild Blueberries & Blackberries
These berries are antioxidant powerhouses. Wild blueberries are exceptionally high in anthocyanins. Both berries add fiber and phenolics, which help prevent cardiovascular diseases, reduce inflammation, improve neurological function, and boost the immune system.
If you've fresh berries on hand, use them to top the smoothie; they add a beautiful burst of flavor and texture on top.
💧 Water
Water keeps the smoothie light, hydrating, and digestion-friendly—no need for sugary fruit juices.
🌰 Flaxseeds
These tiny seeds are a powerhouse of nutrients. Ground flaxseeds bring in omega-3 fatty acids, lignans (which help balance hormones), and soluble fiber. They help regulate digestion and possess anticancer and antioxidant properties.

💛 Why You'll Love This Smoothie

This isn't just a "healthy" smoothie. It's a functional and healing meal. It supports your gut, soothes inflammation, offers you anticancer properties, and improves your cardiovascular health. With these benefits, you can be confident that this smoothie is a powerful addition to your daily routine.

Whether you're managing an autoimmune condition like RA (like I do), supporting your hormones, or just wanting to feel more like yourself, this smoothie can be a daily anchor for healing. And the best part? You can easily tweak it to suit your taste and health goals.
